The city has been set in its sustainable long term development plans, with its newly infrastructure systems upgraded for the convenience and betterment for tourists, travelers who come to visit the city and the region.
To meet the demands of the growing economy, air passenger traffic, and increasing prominence in Southeast Asia. Siem Reap, in particular, has continuously been expanding and upgrading its airports with a new international airport has been built and is going to open in this coming October, 2023. Construction started in 2018, and expected to complete by March, 2023 and shall set to its first trial by June this year.
Cover over 700 hectares of land, the 4E-level international airport is located in Soutr Nikom district, around 40 km from the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park and 50 km from Siem Reap provincial town.
The airport with a 3,600-metre-long and 45-metre-wide runway can facilitate the landing of all kinds of aircrafts. A 4E-level airport can accommodate aircraft with a “reference field length” of 1,800 metres and above and a wingspan of up to 65 metres.
