SIEM REAP – Kompong Phluk – Rolous – Grand Circuit / Boat trip & Sight-seeing temples

After breakfast – start the visit to Kampong Phluk floating Village.

Kampong Phluk is a cluster of three villages of stilted house built within the floodplain of the Tonle Sap about 22km southeast of Siem Reap. The name means “harbor of the tusks”. The villages are primarily Khmer and have about 3000 inhabitants between them. Flooded mangrove forest surrounds the area and is home to the variety of wildlife including crab-eating macaques. During the dry season when the lake is low, the building in the villages seem to soar atop their 6 meters stilts exposed by the lack of water.

On the way back, stop at a local market at Rolous. Walk around this market and see the local selling fruits, vegetables, and many other local products. Visit & shooting some pictures, take about 20 minutes before continuing to the temples in Rolous group, “Preah Ko, Bakong & Lolei”.

Afternoon, Visit the temples at the grand circuit. First visit Preah Khan, the temple is located 2 kilometers north-east of Angkor Thom on the Grand Circuit. The temple was built in the second half of the 12th century in AD 1191 by King Jaya-varman VII, dedicating to his father Dharanindravarman. The Buddhist complex covers 56 hectares served as the nucleus of a group that includes Neak Pean and Ta Som, located 4 kilometers long Jayatataka Baray-the last of the great reservoirs to be built in Angkor. The inscription indicates that Preah Khan was built on the battle site where King Jaya-varman VII finally defeated the Chams.

      Neak Pean
is one of the temples that make one dream of the olden days of luxury and beauty. It was worthwhile to the overpowering temples of Siva that men and armies repaired; but it was at the tiny temple of Neak Pean that eager princesses laid their lovely offerings of wrought gold and pungent perfumes.

Prasat Ta Som located in the east of Nean Pean. The entry and exit to Ta Som can only be access from east entrance. It was built in the end of the 12th century, dedicated to the father of the king (Buddhist), replica to Bayon style of art. Then East Mebon respectively.
Late afternoon, stay at Pre Rup, located at northeast of Srah Srang and 500 meters (1,640 feet) south of the south end of the East Baray. Watch the Sunset and the superb view surrounding !

      * Note:
Because the temple is built entirely of brick and laterite, the warm tones of these materials are best are seen early in the morning or when the sun is setting. There are two views from the top terrace: the first looking east towards Phnom Bok and the mountain chain of Phnom Koulen; and the second looking west where the towers of Angkor Wat can be distinguished on the far horizon.

    • Day 4
SIEM REAP – ANGKOR THOM / Visit the temples in Angkor Thom area and later Silk Farm in Puok

Breakfast, visit Kingdom of Jayavarman VII (1181-1219):
Angkor Thom, the last capital, was indeed a “Great City” as its name implies, and it served as the religious and administrative centre of the vast and powerful Khmer Empire. It was grander than any city in Europe at the time and must have supported a considerable population – which may have been as high as one million. Within the city walls were the residence of the king, his family and officials, military officers and priests while the rest of the people lived outside of the enclosure. The Royal structures were build of wood and have all perished, but remains of stone monuments let us glimpse at the past grandeur of this once great capital.

Southern Gate of Angkor Thom: The stone causeway across the broad moat surrounding the city of Angkor Thom with their unique gopuras, are one of the great sights at Angkor, never ceasing to fill visitors with wonder. The Southern Gate is flanked by a row of 54 stone figures on each side – gods to the left and demons to the right – to make a total of 108 mythical beings guarding the gate to the city. The demons have a grimacing expression and wear a military headdress, whereas the gods look serene with their almond-shaped eyes and conical headdresses. The gods and demons hold the scaly body of a naga on their knees. This composition defines the full length of the causeway. At the beginning of the causeway, the naga spreads its nine heads in the shape of a fan.

Bayon, late 12th century: The Bayon is, with Angkor Wat, one of the favourite monuments among visitors. The temple was build nearly 100 year after Angkor Wat. While its basic structure and earliest part of the temple are unknown, it is clear that the Bayon was built on top of an earlier monument, that the temple was not built at one time, and that it underwent a series of changes. Then, continue to the Third Angkor capital (11th century), Baphuon, middle of 11th century, and respectively visit Phimeanakas, Elephant & Lepper Terrace.
Afternoon, Ta Prohm, early 13th century. The temple was left untouched by archaeologists, except for the clearing of a path for visitors. Because of its natural state, it is possible to experience some of the wonder of the early explorers, when they came upon this monument in the middle of the 19th century.
And Angkor Silk Farm as the last in the day. Visit Silk Farm to learn about the process from the mulberry bushes cultivation to the production of silk fabrics and accessories. As the Silk Farm covers an area of 8 hectares, of which 5 are used for the mulberry trees plantation, you will enjoy the beautiful setting while learning about the fascinating process of silk-making. During your visit, professional guide who works on site will give you more details on the mulberry trees, silkworm farming, cocoon unwinding, preparation of the silk threads, ikat technique (tie-dyeing of the threads) and silk weaving. Free evening and dinner on your own.

After breakfast, you will leave the Angkor Area to the North and drive towards Beng Mealea.
Beng Mealea was built from the late of the 11th – first half of 12th century and is one of the largest ensembles in the Angkor region, covering an area – within its 45m wide moats that cover a distance of 4,200m all around – of 108 hectares and comparable therefore to the most imposing temples of the capital.

Koh Ker is a paradise for those who want to see the interaction between manmade structures and nature without the crowds of tourists. The rich red bricks contrast with the foliage and the patches of light from the trees. Enjoy a relaxing packed lunch in the shade of the trees. The temple was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List on 17 September, 2023.

Time free after breakfast till pick up and transfer to the airport for flight out to…, Or book the Extension Night to conduct and experience VESPA ADVANTURE !

      ENJOY VESPA ADVENTURE, ARTISAN D’ANGKOR
It’s a half day trip, “Half Day Countryside Life Tour” it’s called and this tour has been the most highlighted one as you will drive closer to see and experience the activities that you have never ever had before anywhere else.

Picked up at the hotel by our Vespa drivers, then we proceed to the north and ride through the pristine Angkor forest towards the area immediately West of Angkor, where the founder of the tour, Akim, was raised. She was born during the time Pol Pot was in power and schools were not available.

During this time her grandfather, Loung Sake, was the Grand Abbot of the Angkor complex and this is where she lived. It is unusual for a girl to be educated by monks, but as granddaughter she enjoyed that privilege and lived in the Wat Angkor Kang Chuong (Angkor Wat Pagoda). Under his guidance the monks at Angkor educated her in Sanskrit scriptures on bamboo scrolls, elaborate prayers and rites. Later when schools started to become available in town she traveled the many miles to claim her daily education.
Originally her family was a substantial landowner at the Angkor area and one of the tour stops is at the land where she grew up. After this we proceed and pass by a shop selling colorful small house temples. Here it is explained why so many Khmer houses have such temples outside and what they mean.

Following the embankment we arrive at a Chinese cemetery of the Wat Svai Romiet Pagoda and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake and see the difference in the Khmer and the Gregorian calendar. After a drink and fruit at the pagoda, a monk will perform a special ceremony at the main spiritual hall of the pagoda, where all present will be blessed for good luck.

Your tour will be last and ended by street foods and chills at a local bar.
